TUESDAY PUZZLE — A theme doesn’t have to be complex or multilayered for it to be memorable. Thomas Van Geel’s recent crossword theme, for instance, was just one big sneeze: Entries revealed an “Ah … ah … ah … choo!” and a final “Gesundheit.”
Today’s puzzle, constructed by Ginny Too, enters the pantheon of the simple yet sublime. Have at it, solvers. I have faith in you. In a way, so does this puzzle.
Today’s Theme
A certain [Central Christian belief] at 60-Across provides the phonetic hint to 17-, 27- and 44-Across. We may as well solve those first.
A company [Like a subsidiary with only one parent] is WHOLLY OWNED (17A). [Swiss and Jarlsberg] are both HOLEY CHEESES (27A). And the [Colorful Hindu celebration] is the HOLI FESTIVAL (44A). The first words of these three entries are homophones — thus, a HOLY TRINITY (60A).
