    Lee Anderson secured Reform UK’s first gain of the General Election after winning in Ashfield.The former deputy Conservative party chairman was sacked earlier this year following a row over comments he made about London Mayor Sadiq Khan.He went on to defect to Reform UK and has now held on to his seat in Nottinghamshire.Mr Anderson comfortably won the seat by securing 17,062 votes compared to 11,553 for Labour who came in second.Reform UK looks set to establish a foothold in parliament with Nigel Farage expected to become an MP for the very first time.     Do men and women vote differently in general elections?

    Women and men have often had different ideas when it comes to voting in elections.In the 2019 general election, the British Election study found one of the biggest gender gaps in party support in modern British history, with more men voting Conservative and more women voting Labour.But what about now? The Independent’s data correspondent Alicja Hagopian dives into the numbers.A recent YouGov polling shows that the gender gap among Labour and Tory voters in this election is shrinking — but the real divide comes for Reform voters.The latest polls, released just yesterday (3 July), showed that 40 per cent of women were planning to vote Labour, compared to 38 per cent of men.     Government expert explains how to vote in general election even if you have lost your ID

    An elections expert has explained how you can still vote in the general election even if you have lost your ID.This election is the first time in the UK that everyone wanting to vote in person will have to show a correct form of photo ID before casting a ballot – this includes a passport, driving licence and blue badge.However, if you have lost your identification, you can apply for an emergency proxy vote until 5pm on Thursday 4 July (polling day).Alex Thomas, programme director at the Institute for Government, explained the process for applying during an appearance on Good Morning Britain.
